The capture of Polotsk is the farthest point of Russia’s advance to the west in the 16th century. History of the Polotsk land in 1563–1579. - This is one of the first experiences of Russian imperial policy in the western direction. The campaign of 1563 is an outstanding military success of Russia during the wars of Ivan the Terrible. Introduction, conclusion, chapters 1–6, 8 were written by A.I. Filyushkin, chapter 7 by A.V.
