About the book: 1974 / Leonid Leonov's novel "Russian Forest" is the result of many years of creative quest of the writer, the most complete expression of his moral and aesthetic ideals. The complex scientific and economic problem of forest management is the basis of the plot of the novel, and the forest is its all-encompassing hero. The great interest in the novel among scientists and forestry practitioners showed how vitally important the question posed by the writer was, how timely it sounded and how many people touched a nerve. The activities of the main character of the novel, the forestry scientist Ivan Vikhrov, who grows trees, allows the writer to reveal the fullness of the life of a person in a socialist society, a life full of work and great ideals. The image of Gratsiansky, a man with a dark past, a careerist, a direct antagonist of the moral ideals declared in the novel and embodied in the Vikhrov family, is a great creative success of a talented master of words. Introductory article by E. Starikova. Notes by L. Polosina.
