About the book: year / "The Moscow Man Trilogy" by Gennady Russky belongs, perhaps, to the last truly undiscovered and unappreciated literary phenomena of sub-Soviet samizdat. Having a very limited circulation in typewritten copies, partially published in the West in the “anti-Soviet” publishing house “Posev”, in Russia this book was published in its entirety only once, and went completely unnoticed. At the same time, before us is undoubtedly one of the best texts of uncensored Russian prose of the 1960s and 70s. The bizarre “fairytale” narrative (the narrator’s language makes us recall both Remizov and Shergin) immerses us in a phantasmagoric picture-vision of Moscow in the 1920s, with the demons of the revolution “embodied” in it, unsuccessfully fighting Russian holiness. The dramatic continuation of the story takes us to the Solovetsky camp and, with its sublime style, represents a real ode to the new martyrs and confessors of Russia. A tragic and daring, mischievous and mournful book - one of those that is impossible to forget after reading.
