About the book: 1966 / About the exploits of the Serbian Civil War hero Oleko Dundic, who fought in the ranks of the First Cavalry Army. Born into a peasant family, at the age of 12 he left for South America, where he worked as a cattle driver for 4 years in Argentina and Brazil. At the beginning of the First World War he was called up to serve as a private in the Austro-Hungarian army. He served as a non-commissioned officer in a hussar cavalry regiment. Dundich is the champion of the Austro-Hungarian army in 1914 among non-commissioned officers in fencing. He fought in the First World War on the Russian front. He was captured by Russians near Lutsk in May 1916. In captivity he entered the volunteer Serbian detachment of the army of the Russian Empire. Received the rank of second lieutenant[1]. After the February Revolution, he sided with the Bolsheviks and joined the RSDLP(b)[2]. In the summer of 1917 he entered the Red Guard. In March 1918, he led a partisan detachment in the Donbass. Participated in the defense of Tsaritsyn. In the Red Army [3] he served in the cavalry, from 1919 in the Special Don Cavalry Division of S. M. Budyonny of the First Cavalry Army. He was an assistant regiment commander. Dundich was distinguished by incredible courage. Was awarded the Order of the Red Banner and the Honorary Revolutionary Golden Weapon.
