About the book: 1969 / "North Wind" - the third and final novel of the originally planned trilogy "Robežnieki". The novel was first published in 1921 and soon became one of the most popular works of A. Upit. In 1925, the novel appeared in Leningrad, in a Russian translation. A. Upit began working on this novel in 1918. Latvia was then occupied by the troops of the Kaiser's Germany. Due to difficult living conditions, the writer soon had to interrupt his work. He continued the affair only in 1920, when he returned to Latvia from the Soviet Union and was imprisoned by the bourgeois authorities. It was mainly in prison that he wrote this novel. This is the most significant work about the first Russian revolution in Latvian literature. It depicts the revolutionary events in Latvia from November 1905 to March 1906. The novel, especially at its beginning, reflects many reliable observations of the author himself, who lived in Skriveri in those days (see Upit’s autobiographical essay “My Life and Work” , T. 1).
