About the book: 2007 / During the Second World War, the US armed forces conducted 20 operational and more than 300 tactical amphibious operations in various theaters of military operations. Both the Army and Marine Corps used LVT amphibious tracked landing vehicles in these operations. During the war years, more than 18.5 thousand vehicles of this family were produced. In addition to landing from ships and supplying amphibious assault forces, they were used to cross various water obstacles, for reconnaissance, fire support for landing forces, and evacuation of the wounded. Their role was highly appreciated by a number of American commanders and military historians. “Without these vehicles, our landing operations on the Pacific islands would have been impossible,” this is how American General Holland Smith, one of the creators of the “amphibious doctrine” of the US Marine Corps, categorically spoke about the LVT family.
