About the book: 2021 / Admiral Nicholas Horthy served as regent of the Kingdom of Hungary from March 1, 1920 to October 15, 1944. Acting as regent, Horthy tried to pursue a policy of restoring Hungary to its former borders before the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This policy ultimately led him to an alliance with Hitler. As a result, Hungary regained some of its ancestral lands in Serbia, Croatia, Slovakia and Romania. But this had to be paid for, and the Hungarian formations went to the Eastern Front, where they suffered significant losses. Horthy soon realized the inevitability of defeat for the Axis forces and began secret negotiations with the Allies. However, he failed to bring the country out of the war. The war ended for Hungary only with the arrival of Soviet troops, which Horthy considered enemies and occupiers. Horthy's memoirs are the story of the regent of a kingdom without a king and an admiral without a fleet about his life and how he fought for his country in the atmosphere of conflict that prevailed in Europe , envy and hatred.
