About the book: 1983 / The history of cyberpunk in the Russian-speaking space is old and dates back not to Lukyanenko’s stupid virtual machines and not even to Tyurin’s controversial experiments. Almost at the same time the time when Gibson shot his “Neuromancer”, a short story by Vladimir Pirozhnikov “In the Pastures of Heaven” was published in the magazine “Knowledge is Power”. The text is less refined stylistically and less harsh in its descriptions of our possible future, but no worse in terms of semantic load and plot intrigue. It contains all the attributes inherent in American cyberpunk of the 80s - computers, networks, artificial intelligence, reflections on power and the system. The text went unnoticed, only the old-timers of the fandom remember it. (c) Stanislav Shulga
