About the book: 1974 / This story was written by a very young man, who later became a famous artist - Alexander Nikolaevich Samokhvalov. In 1918, Samokhvalov, together with other students of the Academy of Arts, participated in the “great rush” - the mass production of revolutionary slogans for the May Day holiday. The deadlines were minimal, and it would seem that this simple and purely craft work was turned into earnest creativity, into labor passion, obsession, into an intense search by young artists for the most expressive and sharp poster means, which Samokhvalov excitedly and laconically narrates, walking “through hot on the heels of events. His story is typical of the prose of the 20s not only in its theme, but also in its sophisticated, dynamic form - abrupt, closed phrases that form semantic steps, rhythmic repetitions, “verblessness.” But the years that have passed since that “bright holiday of revolutionary everyday life” shifted the artistic emphasis of the story. It is curious and dear to the modern reader precisely as the excited testimony of an eyewitness who noticed many unexpected, secluded features of revolutionary life.
