About the book: 2019 / You are holding in your hands a book about the times of bloody transformation of the ancient world and the birth of Europe, a book telling about tragic and mysterious five centuries that separated the Christianization of Rome and the adoption of the imperial title by Charlemagne. This is an era of horrors and devastating environmental disasters, which have no equal in recorded history, a time of terrible stories that are not usually taught in school lessons. The Western Roman Empire dissolved in wars and quarrels that consumed it from within and without. On its ruins, barbarian kingdoms arose - poor, sparsely populated, with insignificant resources, subject to the rule of the strong. The new post-Roman states absorbed the Christian Church - the only channel for transmitting the Roman heritage to subsequent generations. In the foundations of these states, their builders laid the roots of centuries-old conflicts, which in the future will respond with many wars, including two world wars. The first volume covers the historical period from 192 to 430 AD. The book “After Rome” is aimed at the general reader, including the unprepared to the stated topic, and can serve as an additional guide for students studying the periods of antiquity and the early Middle Ages. The book uses maps from the Historisch-geographischer Atlas der alten Welt, Weimar 1861. Compiled by Heinrich Kiepert (1818–1899), historical maps X Kipert are in the public domain..
