About the book: 1978 / In the first issue of the series “The Most Ancient States on the Territory of the USSR. Materials and Research" publishes the scientific legacy of the outstanding Soviet Scandinavian Elena Aleksandrovna Rydzevskaya, who died in Leningrad blockaded by the Nazis. Respect for the works of mentors is a trait organically inherent in Soviet science. The creative heritage of E. A. Rydzevskaya is especially precious, because it belongs to that area of science that urgently requires deep development. This heritage consists of two parts - translations of texts from Scandinavian sources and scientific articles, which are closely interconnected and serve to explain Russian-Scandinavian relations of the 9th–14th centuries, and to critically revise the dogmas of vulgar Normanism. The works of E. A. Rydzevskaya are needed by everyone who studies foreign policy Ancient Rus', its international and cultural relations, who is interested in ancient sources on the history of our country.
