About the book: 1964 / Valentin Berestov is an archaeologist by training, and by his main literary “specialty” a lyrical poet and author of funny books for children. In recent years, he has often acted as a prose writer. Berestov's prose is unique. One critic defined his book “There Will Be No Adventures” as a scientific and artistic story, another as a lyrical diary, and a third even as an “archaeological poem.” Indeed, it is difficult to determine the genre of this lyrical, funny and at the same time educational book, dedicated to the excavations of a medieval castle in the flourishing oasis of ancient Khorezm, which had just been reclaimed after a thousand-year break. V. Berestov’s story “The Sword in a Golden Sheath” tells about amazing finds , made by the Khorezm archaeological and ethnographic expedition in the burial mounds of the Central Asian Scythians. The book also includes a short story “I am invited to Mars.” The action of the story takes place in Leningrad in the first post-war years. Its heroes are eighteen-year-old dreamers, “people of real dreams,” as they call themselves. Valentin Berestov’s prose is imbued with humor, which helps his heroes, young scientists, overcome any difficulties and everyday adversities.
