MediaDB / «Seamstress from Sardinia" Bianca Pitzorno: download fb2, read online
About the book: 2024 / The main character of the novel by the famous Italian writer Bianca Pitzorno is a girl from a very poor family, born in a small town on the island of Sardinia at the end of the 19th century. She taught herself to read, loves romance novels and operas by Puccini, but even if deep down she dreams of a handsome prince, in real life she relies only on her mind and skillful hands. Through the eyes of a young dressmaker entering rich houses, we see amazing stories residents of her town. There are love dramas, broken hearts and even murder (or maybe suicide?). Many gentlemen were after her, but she easily restrained their ardor, always politely and without insults, making it clear with a couple of humorous phrases that they should stay away. This was another reason for me to admire her. Men in those days seemed ridiculous to me, especially when they tried to court girls: their meaningless, sugary-sweet phrases and some actions were suitable only for opera librettos. The book is reminiscent of the classic novels that the main character loves to read, and at the same time, it raises very modern themes of female independence, self-confidence, freedom and finding your own path. In addition, Miss had an expensive camera, as well as a bicycle for trips around the surrounding area... Not a single local woman, regardless of nobility and income, would dare to ride a bicycle: even Signorina Esther, who dreamed of cycling since childhood, her father would never allow this. For whom: For everyone who loves Italy, historical novels and family sagas, ancient and touching stories about women who achieve everything with their intelligence and work, but still remain feminine and romantic. For everyone who has read the children's stories of Bianca Pitzorno and is ready to meet with her work for adults. “Listen,” said Miss very seriously. “You’re young and you might fall in love.” But never, remember, never let a man disrespect you, stop you from doing what seems right and necessary, what you like. Your life is yours alone, remember this. You don't owe anything to anyone, only to yourself.
