About the book: 2021 / On November 17, 2019, Paul B. Preciado speaks in Paris in front of 3,500 psychoanalysts as part of the International Days of the Freudian School. Presenting himself to people whose profession diagnoses him with “mental illness” and “gender dysphoria,” Preciado’s speech draws on Franz Kafka’s “Report to the Academy.” In this work, a monkey, having learned human language, speaks to an academy of the highest scientific authorities. Far from emancipation, Kafka's talking monkey explains that learning human language was for her only a transition from one cage to another, from iron bars to human subjectivity.
