About the book: year / Linda La Plante is a British writer, screenwriter, producer and actress, Commander of the British Empire (CBE). Under the name Linda Marchal she played in several popular television series. Born 15 March 1946 in Formby, Lancashire. She grew up in Liverpool, her father was a salesman. As an actress, she starred in the TV series "Z-Cars", "The Sweeney", "The Professionals", "Bergerac", etc., the most successful was the crime series "Widows" (Widows, 1983), for which La Plante wrote the script. Her debut as a TV writer was the children's sitcom The Kids from 47A in the early '70s. In 1991, ITV produced the detective drama series Prime Suspect, written by Linda La Plante. For her work in this series, she received an Edgar Poe Award, a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award, and an American Emmy award. In 1994, Linda founded her own production company, La Plante Productions, for which she wrote the script and, in 1995, directed the sequel “Widows.” La Plante is the surname of her husband, writer Richard La Plante, from whom she divorced in the early 1990s. In subsequent years, she wrote many scripts for mini-series and films, most of which belong to the detective genre. Turning to literary creativity, she created many bestsellers, including adaptations of her own scripts into novels. Observers noted that La Plante was never interested in ordinary petty crime, she was only interested in extraordinary crimes and exceptional skill in solving them. Linda La Plante's novel Bella Mafia (1991) served as the basis for the film Godmother (1997), which was a huge success all over the world.
