About the book: 2018 / This publication for the first time fully publishes the memoirs of Baron Andrei Ivanovich Delvig (1813–1887), engineer-general, technical director and organizer of the construction of many large engineering structures on territory of the Russian Empire. His memoirs are a detailed and unbiased account of the life of Russian society, mainly the capital and provincial service nobility, in the 1810s–1870s. The Patriotic War, the Foreign Campaign, and the December uprising of 1825 entered the life of A.I. Delvig only as echoes, but the participants in these events lived and acted next to the author of the memoirs. A.I. Delvig’s youth fell on Pushkin’s time, the heyday of Russian poetry; Thanks to family ties with the poet Anton Delvig, the future travel engineer met A. S. Pushkin, E. A. Baratynsky, F. N. Glinka, N. I. Gnedich, I. I. Dmitriev, D. V. Venevitinov, P. . A. Pletnev, V. F. Odoevsky, brothers Bestuzhev and Raevsky, A. F. Voeikov. A.I. Delvig is a representative of a galaxy of brilliant Russian engineers. Thanks, among other things, to his energy, intelligence and talent, one of the most important and necessary industries for the state developed - the construction of highways and railways, bridges and water utilities. The first of four volumes of A.I. Delvig’s memoirs covers the period 1813–1842. The book is intended for professional historians, students, and lovers of Russian history.
