About the book: 2010 / Hieromonk Tikhon's book "The Bishop" was written at the beginning of the 20th century. It is dedicated to complex problems of the life of the church - the tendency of formalism and ossification, the loss of living faith in Christ by people who call themselves Christians. A bishop appointed to the local see comes to one of the Russian cities on the Volga; in the opinion of those around him, he is an “original man” and non-standard - he does not like ceremonies meetings, walks around the city, gets upset because of the abundance of paperwork that distracts the bishop from direct pastoral responsibilities. He gets acquainted with the state of affairs in the diocese and finds in the parishes and monasteries the same as everywhere else - order, satiety, calm, outward piety of the clergy and parishioners. And the city is filled with homeless shelters, drunkards, sick and vicious people in need of a healer and shepherd - Christ. Possessing an apostolic gift, the bishop awakens the townspeople from sleep, organizes a suburban community settlement for former homeless shelters and drunkards, returning them to the image and likeness of God, entices them to brings former skeptics-intellectuals to Christ, inspires pastors to true informal service to God. A hundred years have passed since this book was written, pre-revolutionary signs and the answer to the question of the causes and origins of the revolution are clearly visible in it, but the book of Hieromonk Tikhon is even more relevant in our time , when the Russian Church is reborn and its shepherds choose the path by which to lead their children into the Kingdom of Heaven.
