About the book: 1953 / The book is dedicated to the outstanding Russian physicist Alexander Grigorievich Stoletov (1839–1896). Stoletov's main research is devoted to electricity and magnetism. Stoletov was the first to show that as the magnetizing field increases, the magnetic susceptibility of iron first increases and then, after reaching a maximum, decreases. In support of Maxwell's theory, Stoletov developed an accurate and reliable method for measuring the speed of electromagnetic processes, obtaining a value close to the speed of light. He created the first photocell based on the external photoelectric effect, and became the founder of quantitative methods for studying the photoelectric effect... He discovered the constancy of the ratio of electric current intensity to gas pressure at maximum current (Stoletov's constant). Stoletov also devoted a lot of effort to scientific, organizational and pedagogical activities. With his active participation, the physics school of Moscow University arose, from which many famous Russian physicists emerged.
