    About the book: 2009 / Sheikh Rifa'a Rafi' at-Tahtawi (1801— 1873) was in Paris from 1826 to 1831 as part of a group of young Egyptians sent by the ruler of Egypt, Muhammad 'Ali, to study in France. There he wrote most of the book, published in Cairo in 1834, entitled "Extracting Pure Gold from a Brief Description of Paris."
