Issue CDV). The fantasy adventure novel by the repressed Ukrainian writer N. A. Borisov (1889–1937) “The Thursdays of Mr. Droid” (1929) tells about a fictional capitalist country where a method of total consciousness control has been invented, and the sinister “Committee of Human Salvation” is in charge of the lives of citizens. The novel continues Borisov’s acclaimed action film “Ukrasia” (1924, republished by our publishing house in 2013), which formed the basis for the film of the same name. Borisov’s novels, although they belong to Soviet pulp literature, at the same time parody numerous examples of “revolutionary popular print” and are not without a clear touch of self-irony.
