About the book: year / The book is a selection of letters from Yonatan Netanyahu to friends and family. About ten years of life in letters - from a boy to a special forces professional, whose operation in Uganda became a classic in the history of special services. We see how he studies in the States, comes to Israel, joins the army, works from bell to bell in the airborne forces, goes on demobilization, then the Six-Day War begins, he also comes out of it alive, goes to Harvard, gets married... And then everything goes awry. Because the country needs soldiers. And he knows how to fight. Decides to return for a short time, “for a minimum period.” He takes the academic one and returns. He ends up in special forces, special operations and all that. It’s clear that there are long absences and a complete inability to tell at home what he actually does. The wife, finally convinced that her husband will not make a respectable pillar of society, leaves for someone else. And then there's the Yom Kippur War. Again, a bunch of feats - rescuing a wounded tankman-colonel from a damaged vehicle, taking a fortified point on Mount Hermon and much more. After the war, due to the loss of personnel tankers, the holes in the command of the armored forces are filled with anyone, including special forces. Receives a tank battalion - in the last stage of collapse and demoralization. Makes it into candy. He rises to colonel. For saving the tanker he receives one of the highest Israeli awards. In the end he finds a good girl who is ready to understand and accept. And besides, he feels bad - well, there’s simply nowhere else to go. He writes desperate letters to her, saying that he is tired of killing at point-blank range, as well as from afar, and is tired of living God knows how. And that there is one more, last task left. Get rid of him and that’s it. The last letter is dated June 29, 1976. On July 4, 1976, during the liberation of a plane with hostages at Entebbe airport, Jonathan Netanyahu dies. The operation ends successfully.
