About the book: 2021 / Here is the life story of a brilliant officer, fearless naval commander and heroic defender of besieged Sevastopol (1853-1854) - Admiral Fyodor Mikhailovich Novosilsky (1808 -1892). During his lifetime, he was called “Thrice Hero of the Black Sea.” He performed his first feat on the brig “Mercury”, where, together with the ship’s commander Kazarsky and the crew, it was decided to fight to the death, to blow up himself and the ship at the last minute. This was supposed to be done by the artillery officer Fyodor Novosilsky. He became a hero twice in the Battle of Sinop, when, along with the famous Admiral Pavel Stepanovich Nakhimov, he led his half of the squadron into battle with a superior enemy and won, glorifying his name and the strength of Russian weapons for centuries. Fyodor Mikhailovich became a hero three times in 1854 on the Sevastopol bastions. He commanded the 4th bastion, in the most dangerous direction. It was the young Count Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy who served on his bastion, who later described his impressions in “Sevastopol Stories.” It was he and his comrades who hoisted Russian flags and set up the first garrisons in the Black Sea cities of Tuapse, Sochi, and Novorossiysk.
