About the book: year / Peter Mayle was born in Brighton (UK), spent fifteen years in the advertising industry, left this business in 1975 in order to write educational books, including a series on sex education for children and youth. Long years of work in the advertising business (15 years), with its sweatshop system, brutal competition, frequent stress and the constant writing of texts glorifying the advantage of the island kingdom, provided Mail with the necessary funds to realize the secret dream of many Englishmen: he fled from civilization to the French province. Mail found the promised land in Provence. He began writing educational books, including books about the relationship between men and women for children and teenagers. The serene life in the lap of nature delighted the English Francophile so much that when a familiar publisher suggested that he write a book about his rural idyll, Mail readily agreed. He didn’t have to wait long; the author was helped by the diary he kept since he settled in Provence. It’s not enough to say that the success of the book exceeded all expectations; it turned out to be truly phenomenal. The three thousand edition that the cautious publisher started with sold out in the blink of an eye. There was no end to those wishing to plunge into the intoxicating prose infused with the aromas of lavender, olives and Gitan cigarettes. The book was loved not only by the residents of Foggy Albion. It was translated into 22 languages and sold four million copies. The BBC made a film based on it, and the British flocked to Provence: some to look, some to live, and some to move. More than 40 thousand British book tourists have passed through these places. And after them a stream of inquisitive Japanese poured in. “A Year in Provence” became a bestseller in the Land of the Rising Sun. The development of the French province proceeded at an accelerated pace. Some Japanese company bought a bakery in one of the villages and began baking special “Provencal” bread for compatriot tourists. The rural paradise became noisy and crowded, with anxious fans scurrying everywhere. And Peter Mayle ran again. This time to the United States, which guaranteed him anonymity. However, nostalgia for the south of France forced the writer to return to the blessed Gallic land. There he recently completed his new novel about the theft of a Cezanne painting in Provence, which is characterized by his pen's characteristic lightness, English humor and French charm. Peter Mayle lives in Lourmarin, located in the Luberon in Provence, France. Contents:Sam Levitt:1. Wine scam (Translation: Irina Pander)2. Marseille adventure (Translation: Irina Pander)3.
