About the book: year / Dobrolyubov’s article, written on behalf of the editors of Sovremennik, was preceded by the following circumstances. The June issue of the magazine contained “Modern Review” (its author was E.P. Karnovich), which presented a review of articles on the Jewish question. The author of the review protested against measures aimed at oppressing the Jewish people, but at the same time pointed out those negative traits of Jews that are characteristic primarily of the Jewish bourgeoisie.
