MediaDB / «Plant thinking. Philosophy of Vegetative Life" by Michael Marder: download fb2, read online
About the book: 2024 / On the outskirts of the outskirts of philosophy live non-human (and non-animal) creatures, among which are plants. And if modern philosophers usually refrain from raising ontological and ethical questions related to vegetative life, then Michael Marder brings this life to the fore, deconstructing metaphysics on the pages of his book. The author reveals existential features in the behavior of plants and the vegetative heritage in human thought - traces of man in the plant and traces of the plant in man - in order to defend the ability of vegetation to resist the logic of totalization and to go beyond the narrow framework of instrumental thinking. Reconstructing plant life “after metaphysics,” Marder emphasizes their unique temporality, freedom, and material-practical knowledge, or wisdom. In his understanding, “plant thinking” is a non-cognitive, non-ideational and non-imaginative mode of thinking characteristic of plants, as well as the process of returning human thought to its roots and assimilating this thought to plant thought.
