About the book: year / NECESSARY EXPLANATIONS. The author tried to convey the speech of the characters as it is, in all its color. Therefore, it is not very literary and occasionally contains expressions in Ukrainian and Polish (more precisely, in their dialects). The Ukrainian text is presented in italics and Ukrainian letters, as otherwise it turns out unreadable. The difference in pronunciation is only two letters: “e” - read “e”, “i” - read “s” (as in foreign words like “zinc” and “Mercedes”). There is also the reverse “╓”, read as Russian “e”, “╖” - which is “yi”, an apostrophe - which is “b”, but these are completely trifles. The Polish language is much more complex and is conveyed by Russian writing without emphasis (unfortunately, the site editor does not understand it). Words and expressions that cannot be understood either by analogy or from context are explained with notes: [approx. - "...."]. It’s a little complicated, but it seems to me that the “Odessa” language is no less distant from literary Russian, and I have never seen at least one “schlimazl” translate it for me. And one more thing... Do not believe what is written here next. Never, do you hear, NEVER will even the most armchair geologist speak disparagingly about the work of field workers, because the “field” in geology is sacred. And as depicted here, this is how accountants spoke of the field workers as a “big master”. Here! Well, the rest is all true... almost.
