MediaDB / «Blind physiology. An amazing book about vision and hearing" Susan Barry: download fb2, read online
About the book: 2023 / Susan R. Barry is professor emeritus at Mount Holyoke College and Doctor of Biological Sciences. From early childhood, suffering from severe strabismus, she saw the world as two-dimensional, and even after surgical correction of the disease, the world did not become three-dimensional for her. However, she continued to try and, at the age of 48, corrected her two-dimensional vision of the world into a three-dimensional one, which was previously considered impossible in principle. In his book “Blind Physiology,” the author tells two stories: about a boy who learned to see, and about a girl who learned to hear, and also about how acquiring new senses affects people differently. Is it such a good thing to learn to see or hear? How do people live after operations to restore their senses, if their entire familiar world has changed radically? Susan Barry gives answers to such questions, explaining in simple language the mechanisms of the brain and the sense organs themselves - our eyes and ears.
