About the book: 2019 / Next volume The collected works of Zhores and Roy Medvedev consisted of the memoirs of Zhores Alexandrovich, completed by him shortly before his death in November 2018, at 93 year of life. “A Dangerous Profession” reflects not only the stages of the famous dissident, biologist and writer’s own biography (the front, studies, scientific work, human rights activities, psychiatric hospital, emigration), but also almost the entire post-war history of the country. The reader will see a gallery of portraits of the author’s outstanding contemporaries and associates (Nikolai Timofeev-Resovsky, Vladimir Dudintsev, Pyotr Kapitsa, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Andrei Sakharov, Yuri Dombrovsky, Lydia Chukovskaya...). The author reports a huge number of little-known (or even previously unknown) details about political events and figures, about the formation in the USSR, first of “economic independence from the capitalist environment,” and then of “a consumer society with a simplified economy and corruption at the highest level.” The memoirs of Zhores Medvedev will certainly become an important testimony of the era.
