About the book: 2000 / Lenin once said that it is easier to make a revolution than to maintain its gains without the appropriate culture. This is, apparently, entirely applicable to literature. A revolution in literature is much more difficult to achieve than simply throwing literature into the stream of revolution. Due to lack of culture and for other reasons, our young Soviet writers are running away in search of the necessary form from one neighboring site to another, clearly wanting to make the revolution happy with the flow of their grandfather’s literature, but least of all thinking about the revolution itself in literature. They announce studies with Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, and bring Zhukovsky and Edgar Allan Poe here; invent their own “proletarian realism”; and in general, they are very concerned about making sure that bourgeois-feudal-stabilization forms do not disappear from Soviet literature and that they do not forget to adopt something from the after-breathing, rotten literature... We are against the literature of fiction, called fiction; we are for the primacy of literature of fact. Writers have been “transforming” the world for too long, leading the passive and aesthetically intoxicated reader into the world of ideas - when, if not now, to rebuild this world, introducing into it very specific changes necessary for the proletariat? The Lefs did not invent the theory of the literature of fact, just as they did not invent the slogan of art - life-building. Their only merit is that they grasped the greatest need of our time and were the first to try to put the idea that was floating in the air into a few simple and, perhaps, frighteningly simple provisions. http://ruslit.traumlibrary.net
