About the book: 1961 / There was a civil war. In the summer of 1918, communists and Bolshevik-minded soldiers who returned from the front organized a partisan detachment “Red Mountain Eagles of Tarbagatai” in Northern Semirechye. The fighting of the partisans exhausted the whites, disorganized their rear areas, and disrupted communications. Protecting the inhabitants of the villages in the foothills of the Tarbagatai Range from punitive forces, the partisans diverted part of Annenkov’s troops to themselves and thereby provided significant assistance to the fighters of the Cherkassy defense. With the arrival of regular units of the Red Army in March 1920, the detachment joined its ranks and participated in completing the defeat and expelling the whites from their native land. The author, Candidate of Historical Sciences A.S. Elagin, has been studying the history of the civil war in Kazakhstan and, in particular, the partisan movement in Semirechye for many years. Personal acquaintance with former partisans, their vivid stories, as well as trips to the places where the events of those years took place helped the author to better understand the archival materials. This brochure is the author’s first attempt to tell the reader in a popular form about the combat path of the partisan detachment “Red Mountain Eagles of Tarbagatai”».
