About the book: 2022 / The most fruitful work of Alexander Kuprin was from the pre-emigrant period, especially during the period of social upsurge before and during the Revolution of 1905-1907. He entered the history of Russian literature as the author of stories and novels: “Moloch” (1896), “Olesya” (1898), “Duel” (1905), “The Pit” (1st part 1909, 2nd part 1914-1915) , and also as a major master of the story: "In the Circus", "Swamp" (both - 1902), "Coward", "Horse Thieves" (both - 1903), "Peaceful Life", "Measles" (both - 1904), " Staff Captain Rybnikov" (1906), "Gambrinus", "Emerald" (both 1907), "Shulamith" (1908), "Garnet Bracelet" (1911), "Listrigons" (1907-1911), "Black Lightning" , "Anathema" (both - 1913), etc. During the emigrant period, the stories "Junker" (1928-1932) and "Zhaneta" (1932-1933), several essays and stories (the latter - mainly from memoirs) were written. Kuprin belonged to the galaxy of writers of critical realism. Most of his works are highly civic-minded and topical: “Moloch” is a sharp denunciation of bourgeois “progress”; "The Duel" exposes the tsarist army; "The Pit" is an attempt to help modern society overcome the scourge of prostitution. Kuprin's work was influenced by Chekhov, Gorky and especially Leo Tolstoy. A truthful and life-specific artist, who wrote only about what he himself saw, experienced and felt, Kuprin addressed his work to a wide democratic audience; in the center of his works is usually the “average” Russian intellectual - a hard worker, a warm-hearted, conscientious person, seriously vulnerable to life’s contradictions; An important place in Kuprin’s works is occupied by colorful images of ordinary people from the people. The writer is inclined to depict a “group”, “professional”, established, and frequently encountered psychology. Love of life, humanism, plastic power of descriptions, richness of language make Kuprin one of the most read writers today. Many of his works have been dramatized and filmed; they have been translated into a number of foreign languages. Contents: 1. A. Kuprin: Pit 2. A. Kuprin: Juncker 3. A.
