MediaDB / «Transport in livable cities" Vukan Vucik: download fb2, read online
About the book: 2011 / The era of projects maximally conducive to road connections is becoming a thing of the past, giving way to the broader task of creating livable, economically efficient, socially healthy and environmentally sustainable cities. The book explores the complex relationships between transport systems and different types of cities (agglomerations). Drawing on extensive practical knowledge of urban transport systems and transport policy, Vukan Vucik provides a systematic overview of urban transport modes and their characteristics, considers the consequences of excessive dependence on the car and shows that most livable cities around the world prefer intermodal transport systems. The latter are based on a balanced use of cars and various types of public transport. In such cities, comfortable conditions for pedestrian and bicycle communications are created, as well as alternative flexible transport systems, intended, in particular, for elderly and mobility impaired citizens. The book “Transport in Liveable Cities” dispels myths and refutes the emotional arguments of supporters of the preferential development of one a specific type of transport system, be it highways, rail transport systems, the use of bicycles or any other means of transportation. The book sets the direction of transport policy necessary to create cities that are livable and focused on intermodal systems that effectively integrate different modes of transport.
