About the book: 2018 / The possibilities of synthesizing two popular genres of mass literature: detective and fantasy are considered. The purpose of the work is to identify what elements of the structure are borrowed from a detective story and how they are adapted for fantasy. The borrowing of detective elements occurs in two ways: in the first case - in a magical detective story - the structure of a detective story is transferred into the surroundings of a fantastic story (a detective, his assistant, a criminal, the obligatory presence of a riddle, etc. ); in the second case - in “urban fantasy” - it is not the form itself that is borrowed from the detective story, but the atmosphere of mystery that permeates the entire narrative. It is concluded that fantasy has great potential for hybridization with other genres of mass literature.
