MediaDB / «The Volga is born in Europe (LP)" by Curzio Malaparte: download fb2, read online
About the book: 1967 / Only a few works of world literature after the Second World War caused such a sensation as "Skin" and "Caput" by Curzio Malaparte. Because of his political and literary adventures, Malaparte was subject to very harsh criticism from the fascist rulers during the period between the world wars. He even ended up in prison several times. And during the Second World War, in which he partially participated as a front-line correspondent for the Milanese newspaper Corriere della Sera (Evening Courier), he was also punished. Curzio Malaparte (1898-1957) is one of those writers of modern Italian literature who caused much controversy. He had brilliant stylistic abilities, which were reflected in his work, which is a picture of the morally sick society of old Europe. So far, the following books by this author have been published in German by the Stahlberg publishing house: “Skin”, “Kaput”, “Blood”, “Destruction”, “Damned Tuscans”, “Damned Italians”, “In Russia and China”. "The Volga is Born in Europe" contains Malaparte's unabridged accounts of his time on the Ukrainian front and during the siege of Leningrad. In addition to purely military descriptions, a socio-sociological consideration comes to the fore: the confrontation of two mechanized worker armies. Day after day, immediately after marches, battles and observations, Malaparte wrote down his reports and notes for the public, who wanted to receive news from the front. For the first time, the full text is presented here; excerpts that were deleted by fascist censors during the war are again included in the book edition. This book is a document of that time, and it will make the deepest impression on anyone, whether he was a soldier in that war or not..
