About the book: 2017 / In 2003, the White City of Tel Aviv was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a unique example of the Bauhaus architectural style in Israel. But does the White City really have anything to do with the legacy of the famous school, where “the spirit of the avant-garde and internationalism reigned”? In fact, everything is a little more complicated, and the White City, in general, does not seem so snow-white. Especially in contrast to Black: Jaffa and the surrounding area, where there used to be Arab-Jewish areas that were either wiped off the map or lost their historical features. And here we understand that we are talking not so much about architecture as about politics. Sharon Rothbard conducted extensive research and studied how the myth of the White City was born, who benefited from it, and how it influenced not only the mood in Israeli society, but also the lives of many people in this region.
