About the book: 2019 / During the period under study (1968–1985), which the author divides into post-thaw and pre-perestroika, the number of film adaptations in Soviet cinema significantly increased. Films addressed to children and youth audiences especially clearly reflected this feature of the time. Children's literature of the Soviet period was rich and varied: folk and literary fairy tales, works in the genre of science fiction, adventure and school stories... The publicly available book, recommended for children's reading, became a reliable support for filmmakers transferring literary images to the screen. After all, by the end of the 19th century, literature already had a developed tradition of children's books that had undergone pedagogical examination. Experienced Soviet directors turned literary texts into films of various genres - from fairy tales to musicals, from science-fiction adventure films to socio-psychological dramas. The book by film scholar Yulia Khomyakova, exploring the rise and fall of Soviet art for the younger generation, is addressed to a wide range of readers, but primarily to film professionals and teachers working with school-age children.
