MediaDB / «Invasion: A View from Russia. Czechoslovakia, August 1968" Josef Pazderka: download fb2, read online
About the book: 2017 / The Prague Spring - the process of democratization of social and political life in Czechoslovakia - was enthusiastically supported by the majority of the population of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. On August 21, this process was interrupted by the invasion of Czechoslovakia by troops of five Warsaw Pact countries - the USSR, East Germany, Poland, Romania and Hungary. In the Soviet media, the invasion was presented as an act of “brotherly assistance” to the peoples of Czechoslovakia, unanimously approved by the entire Soviet people. Czech journalist Josef Pazderka set out to find out how the events of August 1968 were actually perceived in the USSR. His interviews with representatives of various sectors of Soviet society - military personnel who participated in the invasion, journalists who worked in Prague in 1968, Moscow and Leningrad dissidents - are supplemented by articles by Czech historians and publicists commenting on these events.
