About the book: 2011 / "Alma" is the second book in the series "Military-historical sketch of the Crimean campaign (1854-1856) of the Eastern War (1853-1856). ) famous Crimean military historian Sergei Chennyk. Its difference from the previous one is that the events of just one day are described here - September 8 (20), 1854. But even such a time-limited plot does not reduce the dynamism and does not reduce the intrigue inherent in it. Instead of a tedious narrative about a seemingly long-studied battle, the author shows it as a confrontation between three military leaders: the Russian commander-in-chief, Prince A.S. Menshikov, English general Lord Raglan and Marshal of France Saint-Arnaud. The originality of the style combined with the use of factual material and analytical research favors an attempt to look at what happened more than 150 years ago through the realities of today. The first thing I would like to note after getting acquainted with the content is that the book is not overloaded with philosophical reasoning and unnecessary emotions. True to the developed style, the author does not impose his views and points of view on the reader. Rather, he provokes a discussion in the confidence that a thoughtful reader who is seriously interested in the topic, as well as a serious professional, is themselves able to assess what emphasis should be placed and where, what conclusions should be drawn. The author’s job is only to help him go on the right path. The book will undoubtedly dispel common myths regarding the events described. Readers will discover many details of the battle, most of which were gleaned by the author from sources that have either never been published or have not been translated into Russian to this day. “Alma” is not an attempt to impose one’s point of view, it is only a desire to lift the curtain on one of the most interesting pages of the military history of the Fatherland.
