It is Jirotka's most successful novel, far superior to his other works. According to literary critics, Jirotka was inspired to create it by English humorous literature, in particular the works of Jerome Klapka Jerome, as well as the stories and novels of Pelham Granville Wodehouse (the cycle about the servant Jeeves).
