About the book: 1969 / "Soldiers of Russia" is a literary and artistic work on which Marshal of the Soviet Union R. Ya. Malinovsky worked in the last years of his life. Talking about the fate of a simple boy from the people, Ivan Grinko, the author gives a memorable picture, full of unique details, of the events that unfolded in Russia on the eve and during the First World War of 1914–1918. The chapters of the book are very impressive, in which R. Ya. Malinovsky, with an excellent knowledge of trench life and soldier’s life, talks about the battles in East Prussia, in the Augustow forests and in the Masurian lakes region, shows the inertia and mediocrity of the Russian high command, the growth of revolutionary sentiments in the ranks the tsarist army, the emergence of the first soldiers' committees, etc. Huge, largely little-known material is presented by R. Ya. Malinovsky when describing the tragic history of Russian soldiers sent during the imperialist war to allied France.
