About the book: year / Historical story "Spanish Brothers" - a story from the sixteenth century. This is a story about Protestant martyrs, about those who, despite any obstacles, openly confessed Jesus Christ in their lives. In the history of Spain, the 16th century was very brightly illuminated by the torches of bonfires that burned throughout the country, in which innocent people burned. And, as a rule, the fire of the Inquisition spread to representatives of the aristocracy, whose entire crime often consisted only in the fact that they read the Gospel in their native Spanish language. The Gospel, which received space in the heart, invariably changed the lives of people, forcing them to abandon blind worship of icons, prayers to holy saints, and much more. The Holy Catholic Church, which considered its beliefs the only true ones, could not allow this to happen. Therefore, all those who attempted to stand in defiance of the Catholic Church invariably became victims of the Inquisition. And even the subsequent renunciation no longer promised freedom for the captives - burning at the stake could only be replaced by a more “milder” sentence, a less painful death. And it still remains a mystery what motivated Catholic priests to such “feats” - selfless devotion to the canons of the Holy Church or the desire to get rich at the expense of another sacrifice? It’s not for nothing that representatives of the elite of Spanish society often became victims of the inquisitors.
