About the book: 2014 / The second book in the series "Trace of the Falcon" tells about the relationship between two Slavic princes - Godoslav and Gostomysl. History calls the first, the eldest in age, the father of the future founder of the dynasty of Russian princes and tsars Rurik, while the second, the youngest, is called the grandfather of Rurik in manuscripts. Each of these historical figures is known in its own way, but if there had not been friendship between the two princes, the history of Russia might have appeared differently... Along with the heroes known from the first book of the series, such as the King of the Franks Charlemagne and his inner circle, assistants Godoslav, the prince-voivode Drazhko and the sorcerer Stavr with the scouts subordinate to him, the reader will become acquainted with new heroes, eastern and western Slavs, such as the father of Gostomysl, the indomitable prince Burivoy, the Varangian prince Voinomir, the future prince of the island of Ruyan and the Pomeranian principality, later one of the best commanders of Charlemagne, the conqueror of the formidable Avars, and with others. Chronologically, the action takes place three and a half years after the events of the first book. Charlemagne first finally annexed Bavaria to his kingdom, and then, before entering into a serious, in his opinion, long-term war against the constant threat to all of Europe from the southeast - the Avar Kaganate, he decided to ensure peace in the rear. To do this, Charles needed to finally pacify the unreliable Saxony and put an end to the principality of the Wagers, ruled by Prince Bravlin the Second. But, feeling Charles’s aspirations, worried Byzantium also raised its head. The Avar Kaganate, which hung over the northern Greek provinces as a constant threat, caused a lot of trouble to Byzantium. However, if you replace one dangerous neighbor with another, not just dangerous, but also terrible with its strength, tenacity and organization - the kingdom of the Franks, the threat will become a hundred times stronger... This was well understood in Constantinople…
