About the book: 1967 / This story - the magazine publishes it with abbreviations - is part of a cycle of stories and stories about the life and adventures of Alexei Novikov, a space reconnaissance officer. The heroes of “Åland Holidays” may be familiar to readers from previously published stories: “And I Saw the Rest,” “Formula of the Impossible,” “Twilight on the Planet Byur.” What were these stories about? Novikov and Zaostrovtsev, while still student trainees, are flying on the space tanker "Absheron" to Jupiter. On the way, their instruments unexpectedly fail. The death of the ship is inevitable... And here Zaostrovtsev, with some sixth sense incomprehensible to himself, manages to “touch” the ship out of the terrible “U-field.” What was that? Awakening of the ancient instinct of orientation in space under the influence of radiation? Or something qualitatively new? In the future, Zaostrovtsev, together with biophysicist Reznitsky, is working on this problem. After all, the capabilities of the human brain are far from being exhausted... Following the First stellar expedition, which never returned to Earth, the Second stellar expedition goes into the depths of the Galaxy in order to establish the source of powerful energy radiation. Among the participants in this expedition are Novikov and Reznitsky. While exploring the system of the star Alpha Camelius, they encounter on the twilight, ice-covered planet Bur with a peculiar form of life - the direct transformation of cosmic radiation into bioenergy. The life of the aborigines of this planet is supported by an energy charge; they do not need food or warmth. But the local civilization, apparently, has taken on an ugly character... In “Aland Holidays” all our heroes are on Earth.
