Esperanza is ashamed of the house on Mango Street where she lives with her huge, noisy family; she dreams of growing up quickly, escaping her hometown and becoming a writer. Esperanza watches her neighbors: their life is very difficult, but by some miracle they manage to be happy. Although there is nothing strange in this, poverty is nothing if you are strong in spirit, do not give in to sadness, strive for freedom and are true to your dreams.
