About the book: 2005 / An aircraft being removed from service is often pitied and almost always pity has a thick, thick layer of nostalgia. Jaguar is a different matter. In France and Great Britain, the removal of fighter-bombers from service did not arouse enthusiasm among anyone; nostalgia had nothing to do with it: the aircraft simply can do work that is inaccessible to the sophisticated “jet” of the new generation. The reason for Jaguar's resignation is purely financial - operating the aging Jaguar fleet is becoming more and more expensive every year. Although this motive is partly far-fetched - according to the cost-effectiveness criterion, the RAF fighter-bomber in 2005 had no equal among high-speed jet combat aircraft! The Jaguar has earned the reputation of a simple and reliable aircraft, unpretentious to operating conditions, with excellent combat survivability. The aircraft requires a minimum number of technical personnel and very few spare parts to maintain, which greatly simplified its rapid deployment in overseas theaters of operations. Designed as a specialized attack aircraft, the Jaguar proved to be a good fighter. At the famous Red Flag exercises, which were extremely close to a combat situation, fighter pilots of the “defending” side considered the Jaguar to be the most difficult attack aircraft to shoot down. Russians hold Jaguar in a special place. Many pioneers and Komsomol members of the Soviet Union began their journey to Big Aviation by gluing together a dozen and a half to two gray airplanes produced by the Naro-Fominsk toy factory and only learning years later that they were Jaguar models - single and double. How then did you want to believe that this was a MiG-23, only with a wing of constant geometry?…
