About the book: 2012 / Theodor Kramer The largest Austrian poet of the 20th century, Theodor Kramer, whose work was recognized by the German-speaking world back in the 1920s, became famous in Russia only in the 1970s. After the occupation of Austria, thanks to the help of Thomas Mann, who highly valued Kramer, the poet managed to escape to England in 1939, where he lived until the fall of 1957. During his lifetime, 90% of his work remained unpublished; to this day, slightly more than two thousand poems have been published; four times more remain unpublished. T. Kramer's poems have been translated into dozens of languages, including Russian. In Russia, Evgeny Vitkovsky did the most to popularize the poet’s work; his translations were awarded a prize by the Austrian Ministry of Education in 1993. This publication combines all translations by E. Vitkovsky, including unpublished ones.
