About the book: 2023 / The task of understanding fashion as a social, cultural, economic or political phenomenon lies in an interdisciplinary field. To solve it, researchers have to use the widest methodological arsenal and turn to different areas of humanities. Collection “Understanding Fashion. Review of Key Theories" consists of articles in which, from the perspective of this new discipline, the classical works of K. Marx and S. Freud, the postmodern theories of J. Baudrillard, J. Derrida and J. Deleuze, the actor-network theory of B. Latour and the theory of political body in the texts of M. Foucault and D. Butler. Each of the chapters, arranged chronologically according to the year of birth of the thinker, is devoted to one of these concepts: the reader will find in them a brief summary of the hero’s key ideas, an analysis of their potential and methodological limitations, as well as an analysis of specific cases illustrating the productivity of a particular approach to study fashion. Among the authors of the collection are Peter McNeil, Efrat Tseylon, Joan Entwistle, Francesca Granata and other influential fashion researchers.
