About the book: 1957 / Nikolai Evgenievich Khokhlov (aka Joseph Hofbauer, aka “Volin”, aka “Tikhon”) was born in 1922 , before the war - student of theater universities, pop artist; in September 1941 he was recruited to work in the Moscow underground created by the NKVD; underwent training in a German prisoner of war camp to be sent as a German officer behind the front line. In 1942, he was sent to the Minsk region, took part in the liquidation of Gauleiter Kube; in a partisan detachment he went to the borders of the Reich. From 1945 to 1949 - an illegal business trip to Romania. In 1950 he was awarded the rank of senior lieutenant of the State Security Service. 1952 - illegal work in Austria, Switzerland, France and Denmark, operational work in Berlin to recruit agents and refusal to carry out “liquidation” in France; from the end of the year he was appointed resident in Switzerland, nominated for the rank of captain of State Security. In February 1954, he informed one of the leaders of the anti-Soviet emigrant organization People's Labor Union, Georgiy Okolovich, about his impending murder and remained in the West, for which in June he was sentenced in absentia by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR to VMN. In 1958 they tried to poison him. 1959–64 years of work in South Vietnam (adviser to the president), Germany and South Korea. In 1968 he defended his doctoral dissertation in experimental psychology. Currently Professor Emeritus at California State University.
