About the book: year / He published his first book in 1992, since then he has published several novels a year, being particularly prolific. Over the past two decades, he has published about thirty novels. He easily writes books in several series, as well as non-serial works; he has published about five collections of stories. Bruen also edited the collection Dublin Noir (2006). His linear and laconic prose is characterized by critics as dark and hopelessly tragic. His stories have been described as tales of violence, laced with surprising bursts of absurd humor. Bruen is part of a literary circle consisting of Jason Starr, Reed Farrell Coleman and Allan Guthrie. Bruen's most famous novels are in the series about Jack Taylor, a security guard, ex-cop turned private investigator, whose life is clouded by alcohol and drugs. The novels in this series are set in Bruen's home town of Galway. Despite the apparent decline in literary level, Bruen's novels react very sharply to various social phenomena - the decline in the prestige of the Catholic Church, the economic growth of Ireland in the 90s, social inequality and others. In most of his novels one can also find echoes and descriptions of real events. In addition to fairly detailed landscapes of South London and Galway, the writer regularly uses events from his personal life or the lives of relatives and friends as material for his novels. Thus, Bruen’s daughter suffers from Down syndrome, which he openly talked about in the novels where Jack Taylor’s friends Jeff and Katie, and Serena-May’s daughter suffers from a similar disease. Some of his wife's relatives were undergoing treatment for alcoholism, which he spoke about no less straightforwardly in his novels. One day he also mentioned that his son-in-law became the model with whom he wrote his character Tommy in the novel “American Skin.” Unfortunately, only some of the author's novels have been translated into Russian. Ken Bruen collects literary awards, fortunately his novels have allowed him to amass a huge collection. Among the Edgar awards from the Mystery Writers Association of America, Macavity, Anthony, Schamus and others. Recently, Bruen's novels have been actively filmed. Among the films transferred to the screen are the films Bodyguard with Colin Farrell and Keira Knightley and Without Compromise with Jason Statham. Russian viewers especially liked the television project about Jack Taylor, starring Iain Glen. Contents:Jack Taylor:1. Ken Bruen: Guardians (Translation: Tamara Matz)2.
