About the book: 2014 / This edition collects and comments on the most complete corpus of correspondence between the philosopher Lev Shestov (1866 –1938) and psychoanalyst Max Eitingon (1881–1943), identified to date. Published fragmentarily in the book by N.L. Baranova-Shestova’s “The Life of Lev Shestov” (1983), this correspondence, presented in its entirety, reveals not only new details in the biographies of both correspondents, but also introduces a panorama of the intellectual life of Europe in the 20-30s of the last century. The book examines in detail, based on archival materials, an episode of L. Shestov’s trip to Palestine in the spring of 1936.
